IRISET Celebrates 68th Annual Day; ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan Delivers Keynote Address
The Indian Railways Institute of Signal Engineering & Telecommunications (IRISET), the premier training institute of Indian Railways for Signalling and Telecommunication technologies, marked its 68th Annual Day celebrations today.
Dr. V. Narayanan, Secretary, Department of Space and Chairman, ISRO, delivered the keynote address. Shri Satish Kumar, Chairman & CEO, Railway Board, addressed the gathering through a recorded video message. Shri Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, General Manager, South Central Railway; Shri Rajesh Kumar Pandey, Additional Member (Signal); and Shri Shailesh Gupta, Additional Member (Telecom), Railway Board, were present as Guests of Honour. Senior officials, faculty members, and trainees also attended the event.
In his keynote speech, Dr. Narayanan underscored that advancements in technology would soon enable real-time monitoring of all trains across the Indian Railways network. He drew parallels between Indian Railways and ISRO in terms of scale, complexity, and commitment to safety.
He noted that ISRO’s communication satellites play a vital role in supporting train safety and highlighted India’s achievements in space— including possessing the best camera on the moon and being the first country to make a soft landing on the lunar South Pole.
He added that ISRO and Indian Railways will collaborate further on multiple technological fronts.
In his virtual address, Railway Board Chairman Shri Satish Kumar praised IRISET for its exceptional performance in 2025, especially its wide range of training programs for both railway personnel and private-sector participants. He reiterated that safety in train operations remains the top priority.
SCR General Manager Shri Sanjay Kumar Srivastava urged the institute to strengthen multi-skilling initiatives and modernize training modules to enhance reliability and safety of S&T assets.
Earlier, Director General Shri Sharad Kumar Srivastava presented the annual report, noting significant expansion in training and capacity-building.
Key highlights:
8,462 trainees trained in 2025 across 310 courses, totaling 81,407 trainee days
Cumulative trainee count crosses 1.2 lakh since inception
Kavach ATP training remained the flagship, with 4,364 personnel trained across various departments
Centre of Excellence accelerated Kavach deployment through advanced testing, new algorithms, Version 4.0 lab upgrades, field trials, and national knowledge platforms
18 new MoUs with engineering institutions and ITIs for next-generation skill development
Major infrastructure upgrades including new Electronic Interlocking labs, enhanced cybersecurity systems, modern learning tools, renovated classrooms, improved hostels, and campus-wide secure Wi-Fi
Additional Member (Signal) Shri Rajesh Kumar Pandey urged engineers to align their skills with the growing infrastructure push and adopt safety as a core professional value. Additional Member (Telecom) Shri Shailesh Gupta emphasized innovation and excellence to meet national expectations.
Awards, Workshop & Exhibitions
Earlier in the day, a technical workshop was held on Emerging Developments in Kavach Technology and Cyber Security, featuring experts from industry, academia, and zonal railways. Exhibition stalls showcased S&T products and upcoming advancements.
