Ancient Coins Unearthed in Cheemalapet Village
A rare incident came to light in Cheemalapet village of Julapalli mandal when ten ancient coins were accidentally unearthed during land-leveling works.
According to reports, on October 25, 2025, a local farmer, Thonti Raju, was leveling his seven-gunta house site using a blade tractor when the coins were discovered. The coins were initially kept in his possession.
Upon receiving information on October 27 morning, Julapalli Sub-Inspector of Police alerted the Mandal Revenue Officer, and both teams rushed to the village. The officials conducted inquiries with nearby residents and carried out a panchanama before taking the coins into official custody.
Later, the coins were examined by a local goldsmith, who confirmed that they were made of silver, copper, and brass, weighing a total of 111.50 grams.
Authorities reminded that, under the Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972, possession, purchase, or sale of ancient coins or artifacts without permission is a legal offence. Citizens who find such objects are urged to immediately inform the police or concerned officials.
