The Telangana State Government has set a record target of purchasing 80 lakh metric tonnes of paddy during the 2025 kharif season, said Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies Uttam Kumar Reddy.
Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, along with Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, Chief Secretary K. Rama Krishna Rao, and other senior officials, held a video conference with district collectors to review paddy procurement arrangements. From the Integrated District Collectorate, District Collector Koya Sri Harsha and Additional Collector D. Venu participated in the review from Peddapalli.During the conference, Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy stated that 1,640 purchase centers are yet to be opened, and directed officials to activate them immediately. He reiterated that the government is committed to paying farmers within 48 hours of procurement and instructed that all transaction details be promptly entered online.
The Minister emphasized that all logistics — vehicles, tarpaulins, gunnny bags, and paddy cleaners — should be kept ready based on the expected inflow of paddy. He highlighted that this is the first time in India’s history that 80 lakh metric tonnes of paddy are being purchased in a single season.He also directed officials to issue clarifications to the press in response to any negative reports regarding procurement and to ensure transparency in the process.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said that about 1.10 lakh acres of crops were damaged due to untimely rains. He urged district collectors to ensure a smooth and rigorous procurement process so that farmers receive timely relief.
He mentioned that although the state has requested the central government to relax the moisture percentage limit, no response has yet been received. Farmers were advised to dry paddy and cotton crops properly before bringing them to purchase centers to avoid issues during procurement. He also directed officials to map cotton procurement with nearby ginning mills for the convenience of farmers.Chief Secretary K. Rama Krishna Rao noted that paddy procurement will peak in November and instructed officials to make necessary arrangements accordingly and provide timely guidance to farmers.
District Collector Koya Sri Harsha said that 394 procurement centers have been set up in Peddapalli district with a target of 3.41 lakh metric tonnes. He added that 1.2 lakh metric tonnes are expected to be procured in the next 20 days.District Civil Supplies Officer Srinath, Civil Supplies Manager Sreekanth, District Cooperative Officer Srimala, District Agriculture Officer Srinivas, Zilla Parishad CEO Narender, and other officials attended the review meeting.
