Secunderabad Railway Station Redevelopment in Full Swing at ₹714.73 Crore — Project to be Completed by December 2026: G. Kishan Reddy

Hyderabad, November 10, 2025:

Secunderabad Railway Station, one of South India’s busiest rail hubs, is undergoing a massive redevelopment to match global standards at an estimated cost of ₹714.73 crore. The project, which is progressing rapidly, is expected to be completed by December 2026, according to Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Hon’ble Union Minister for Coal and Mines.

The Minister, accompanied by senior South Central Railway officials including Shri Satya Prakash (Additional General Manager, SCR), Dr. R. Gopalakrishnan (Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad), Shri Ranadheer Reddy (Chief Administrative Officer, Construction), and Shri A. Sridhar (Chief Public Relations Officer, SCR), inspected the ongoing works at the station today.

During his visit, the Minister reviewed the redevelopment progress and safety measures at the site. Speaking to the media, he said the station — built during the British era — now handles a daily passenger footfall of 1.97 lakh and over 100 trains. To meet modern travel needs, it is being transformed into a world-class facility comparable to airports.

Shri Kishan Reddy highlighted several features of the project:

A double-storey sky concourse over 3 acres with space for 3,000 passengers, cafeterias, and retail outlets.

26 lifts, 32 escalators, and 2 travelators for seamless movement.

A 5 MW solar power plant, advanced security systems, STP with 5 lakh litres/day capacity, and rainwater harvesting infrastructure.

Direct connectivity with East and West Metro stations and the bus station via walkways.

He stated that the multi-level car parking facility would be completed within this year, followed by the South Block in the next four months. The North Block, platforms, and roofing works are also progressing swiftly.

The Minister added that after completion, the upgraded station will handle 2.7 lakh passengers daily and 32,500 passengers per hour, setting new standards for passenger convenience and infrastructure in Hyderabad.

Shri Kishan Reddy also noted that the Telangana Railway Budget allocation for FY 2025–26 stands at ₹5,337 crore. Over the past decade, the state has seen:

346 km of new lines and 487 km of doubling/tripling/quadrupling works completed.

1,959 track km electrified, achieving 100% electrification in Telangana.

293 RuBs, 43 RoBs, and 49 FoBs constructed.

96% completion of the new Komaravelli Railway Station.

MMTS Phase-II works at Yadadri to commence soon.

He further mentioned that 40 railway stations in Telangana are being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, including Begumpet, Warangal, and Karimnagar, which were recently inaugurated. Maintenance depots for Vande Bharat trains are coming up at Secunderabad and Kacheguda, while a Centre for Excellence has been established at IRISET, Secunderabad, to accelerate indigenous signalling technology such as Kavach.

The total cost of ongoing railway projects in Telangana currently stands at ₹42,219 crore.
